It's a good idea to understand the answers to all these questions.

What is the Zombie Sprint?

Zombie Sprint is unlike any other event you've ever done.

Teams of two solve 6 clues that will lead you to 6 zombie occupied hazard zones. Each of these zones will have a zombie guarding the kill-station that you need to get to. Once you're in the kill-station you'll mark your kill-card and then try to escape.

The zombies you'll need to escape carry markers to tag you in the zombie-hunter event shirt you received at event check-in.  If they get you, you were zombie dinner at that station.

What do we get?

Before the race you'll be given your official Zombie Hunter shirt with your unique participant number written on it.  This shirt must be worn at all times during the event, it may not be removed, and it has to be your top layer of clothing and visible to our near sighted zombies

One of the most fun days you've ever had

A great workout

A great story!

How is it scored?

There are 6 possible Zombies for you to kill, and six times you could get killed yourself.  Our Zombies will be loosely guarding the Zombie Hazard Zone which is a safe zone you'll need to get to in order to stamp your Kill-card.  If the Zombie marks either team member, your both considered dead. At the finish, we'll subtract how many times you were killed from the number of Zombies you succeeded in killing. The highest score you could attain would be 6, and for those teams that have the same scores, you'll be judged secondly by finish time.

We're only concerned with any marking that makes it on your event shirt, if your shoes get stained, we won't count it.

How does a Zombie mark us?

These specially trained Zombies know how to work a gun, well one that contains uniquely colored Zombie Blood that is.  Your shirt will be white.  While our Zombie Blood is food-grade, you may not want to wear anything that you don't mind having to do a lot of scrubbing to get out, if that's even possible.

What's the most important resource for our success?

You have many ways to solve clues: Your smartphone, asking strangers, the library, you can even carry a laptop if you don't mind hauling it around. But maybe the most important thing you can do is have a great Zombie Hunter phone-a-friend. Calling someone at home who has web access can make a huge difference in solving clues and getting directions to your destination.

Do we need fancy athletic clothes?

Wear whatever you'd typically wear for a day out roaming the streets. Some comfy running/walking shoes will make your day more fun. Matching outfits are encouraged, or better yet, wear some cool costumes!  You WILL BE REQUIRED to wear your Zombie Hunter event t-shirt as your top layer, so if you think it might be cold, put in your order for a larger sized shirt than you would typically wear and layer underneath it.  Don't wear ANYTHING you would be upset with if it were to get stained.

Do we have to wear costumes?

We've got a prize for the best team costumes in every single city! And when else will you have an excuse to dress up ridiculously and run around the city streets?  Obviously Zombie Hunter costumes are encouraged.

Where does this take place?

Sometimes it's in a park, sometimes we start and finish at a local establishment. See the registration page for your city.

If my teammate or I can't make it, can I get a refund?

No refunds for any reason because we prepurchase insurance, race shirts, staff, etc. However, you can switch teammates at any time. Just log in to your Eventbrite account and make the changes to your registration there.

Alternatively, you can switch to any other race by just emailing us your request.

Do I need to be a runner to finish?

If you can walk 5 miles, you will likely be able to complete the event. Keep in mind you can also use public transportation. Winners will probably have run much of it, but that doesn't mean they had as much fun as you did walking. Total course distance done entirely on foot may be longer.

Teams are ranked first by number of Zombies killed, then by the time it took them to finish.  If you kill just one Zombie, you will don the title Zombie Hunter.  This is designed so that most of the teams have time to reach each Zombie Hazard Zone.

Do I have to be an expert on my city?

No. Many of our participants may be from out of town. Being familiar has its advantages, but a good pit crew as your phone-a-friend is even more valuable.

Maps: Maps are a good idea, and you'll want to bring any you think that might help you.

Do we have to complete the checkpoints in any particular order?

You'll want to pick the route you think is fastest, it's entirely up to you.

How long is the race?

Time: about 2-4 hours. But plan to stick around for a fun atmosphere afterward. Distance: we imagine most teams spending around 5-7 miles on their feet, give or take. In cities with great public transportation (Chicago, for example) may cover a longer distance.

When (and what) is race check-in?

Event check-in opens at 11am. In order to speed things up, please print and fill out either this ADULT WAIVER ot this MINOR WAIVER ahead of time. Please arrive by 11:30am at the latest so you can be ready for the pre-race announcements at 11:45am.  The race starts promptly at noon.  Put your event t-shirts on before the event begins!

Do you cancel if it rains?

Heck no! Many of our participants think the rainy day events end up being the most fun! We only ever make changes based on safety.

Who came up with this?

Zombie Sprint is a fun and accessible spin on adventure racing. Sierra Adventure Sports has been hosting adventure races, 5k's, bike races, Scavenger Dash, Scavenger Blitz, Mad Mud Run, etc since 2003.

How can I volunteer?

Volunteers are needed from 11am til 4pm. Please email us and indicate which city you are interested in helping out with. Duties may include overseeing a mystery challenge, helping with check-in or handing out t-shirts. We're saying thanks with a free entry into any of our other races!

Can we see the results after the race?

Yes, your team name, participant names, and time along with any photos we may have will be posted on your city's event page by the Tuesday following the race. Please email us your photos for inclusion on the website.

Will there be any awards?

Yes. Just after 4pm we will have an awards ceremony. We'll have awards for our top three teams, an award for best costume.

Zombies: We'll need you from 11-4 on event day. We'll need you to wear your best Zombie costume for a day out guarding your own Hazard Zone.  If you can do your own makeup, great, or we'll have someone that can help at the venue, just need you there early for Zombie training.
